Title: Transformation IV
Dimensions: 4 1/2" w x 4 1/2" h in 6 3/8" square frame
Statement: The artworks in the Transformation Series explore the fate of the former wetlands around San Francisco Bay. They are small aerial landscape views of the salt ponds and wetlands surrounding the bay. The colors used are intended to express hope for restoring the salt ponds to wetlands. The rusty-pale colors of the salt ponds are transforming into the vibrant greens and blues of healthy wetlands with an implication that nature has taken charge – it can no longer wait for us humans to sort out our competing interests.
Materials and Techniques: Silk crepe de chine handpainted with remezol dyes. Machine embroidered with rayon and polyester thread. Polyester batting and silk broadcloth backing, silk doupioni binding. Mounted to acid free rag board and framed.
Status: Part of open edition* series. More available for sale.
* open-edition is a term borrowed from printmaking where the number of multiples created is not limited to a specific number. Each artwork is individually hand-painted and stitched, thereby making each one unique. However multiples of each design exist.
