We have acquired nearly all of the 194,000 miles of rivers, streams and creeks in California for human use. Only 1% of the 194,000 miles are permanently protected from dams, diversions, resources extraction and imprudent development. Efforts are underway to restore and protect more of California's rivers. This artwork represents of a portion of river in the process of being restored to its wild state.
