Mama Bear and Baby Bear Prints
This region of Yosemite is known for bear sightings and for the first time in over 10 years we saw bears in the backcountry. We initially saw their paw-prints on the trail. The first bear we actually saw was a good bear and ran away as soon as it heard/smelled us. The second bear was almost a good bear: we saw it running across the trail ahead of us. We paused for 5 minutes to give it space and when we got to the point where it had crossed the trail, we turned and looked uphill only to see it 10 yards away, watching us. We decided to move on quickly in the interest of reducing its contact with humans. |
