Where they might build a shopping mall
We woke up early the next day and packed up our camp and got on the trail by 6 am to hike out of the canyon. While it had been so cold when we first arrived, we had record breaking hot temperatures for our backpack trip. We completed the remaining 4.8 miles and 3060 feet of climbing by 10:30 am, showered in the campground and had a nice lunch in the El Tovar dining room. Driving out the east side of the canyon, we stopped at Desert View to enjoy this view of the canyon one last time. In the upper right is where a Scottsdale developer wants to build a shopping mall and tramway, which would forever change this view and the character of the canyon.
