Title: Twisted Fate I |
Dimensions: 33 x 40 inches |
Artist Statement: This piece is about the symbiotic relationship between the watershed and the river. Freely flowing rivers provide better water quality and they support more fish, wildlife and plant species. Undamaged watersheds (no clear cutting of forests, dams) support healthy rivers. The interconnection of the watershed and the river are represented by the twist in the center and I have reversed the usual portrayal of the land (greens) on top and the water (blues) on the bottom to create a sense of tension in the piece. |
Materials and Techniques: Hand painted silk charmeuse fused to iridescent silk chiffon. Trapunto waves stuffed with polyester batting, machine quilted with rayon thread. Rhinestones hand stitched in place with copper metallic thread. Wavy cut panel edges left unfinished and frayed, hand stitched together with copper metallic thread. |
